Longing for the Goddess

A tribute to my triad partners.

Resonant World #118

Today’s poem grew out of the increasingly profound process unfolding via the 90-minute sessions of self-inquiry I’ve been holding for the past two years with Susanne Forstner and Inga Hiltner.

Working in threes — or “triads” — is a core practice in the two-year Timeless Wisdom Training (TWT) run by Thomas Hübl and his team, where participants dive deeply into the theory and practice of integrating individual, ancestral and collective trauma.

Having completed the TWT in December, we’ve continued our triad under the aegis of a subsequent year-long training as collective trauma integration facilitators, considered a “third year” of the TWT. (Resonant World#79: Why I’m Training as a Collective Trauma Integration Facilitator).

Triads sound disarmingly simple: Each partner takes 15 minutes to share while the others listen, then offer reflection on what they heard. The idea is to practice “transparent communication” — speaking from our embodied experience of the other person, and attuning ever more precisely to the processes at work in ourselves and each other.

It’s amazing to reflect on how our exchanges have deepened and evolved during the time that we’ve been meeting. I’ve experienced many revelations, but one of the most striking is our growng capacity to distinguish with ever greater precision between the different layers of individual, ancestral and collective trauma living in our systems. New capacities to voice, witness and release this trauma have developed in response. I plan to write more about this in future posts.

And I’ll underline that my growing awareness of the meaning and significance of the Goddess archetype in my life has been one of the most surprising facets of our exploration — as the above poem attests. Inga and Susanne both embody high-voltage Goddess energy and I sometimes wonder how I could have been so fortunate to have had this opportunity to work with two such incredibly wise, grounded and searingly insightful women in this way.

I should also mention that I felt emboldened to share this poem — which goes way out of my usual comfort zone — by encouragement from

Kimes, creator of the newsletter, which I’ve found to be full of depth and wisdom.

Spiritual spoken word is a new thing for me — I hope you enjoy it!

Meanwhile, I wanted to share some offerings:

A Workshop for the Climate-Conflicted

The incredible climate psychologist Steffi Bednarek and I are offering a workshop for professionals conflicted over their organisation’s response to the climate crisis, which grew out of a video I recorded earlier last year reflecting on the dilemmas I experienced while working as a climate correspondent at Reuters. (Resonant World#35: Should I Stay, or Should I Go?)

We’ll be hosting this day-long session at The Conduit in London next Saturday, December 7, and I know it will prove a powerful resource for anyone sitting with a sense of stuckness, overwhelm or inner conflict in relation to their organisation’s response to the climate crisis. We still have a few spaces left — please do message me if you’d like to hear more. Details and bookings here.

From Overwhelm to Calm: A Four-Week Course for Parents

is distilling the essence of her one-on-one work as a clinical psychologist and conscious parenting coach into a course to share practical tools for nervous system regulation for parents of sensitive, strong-willed children.

I’ve seen first-hand the transformational impact that Genevieve’s work can have for mums and dads struggling to know how to respond to their child’s intense emotions, meltdowns and difficulties with transitions (such as going to school, or bedtime), and I’m delighted she’s launching this course in January.

More details and bookings here.

The Resonant Man

My soul brother

and I are extending an invitation to men who hear the call of the to join the nucleus of participants who’ve already established a highly generative group field through our gatherings every Sunday evening UK time. More on the initiative here. If anyone thinks this might be a good fit for them, please do get in touch with me or Jacob and we can set up a call.

The Resonant Man
What Happens When We Commit?
Today, I was speaking with a friend about the journey it has taken to get here, reflecting on the necessary beginnings of a ‘divergence’ that I experienced in university. It was a time when the ideas and experiences that captivated me were no longer reflected in the culture and institutions around me. The moment when my calling and my healing began to…
