Resonant World #111
Doesn’t the word “alignment” have such a graceful ring?
If it assumed physical form, it would present as an arrow.
It evokes clarity, elegance, geometry and direction.
But it also implies an obvious question:
Alignment with what?
We might commonly think of ourselves as being in alignment with people, ideas, maybe even organisations or social movements.
But the kind of alignment that Roberta Boyce, Dallas Gudgell and I explored in our latest Entering the Way of Wisdom dialogue was harder to define.
For me, the word alignment closely relates to what I’ve come to think of as the “healing intelligence” — a mysterious, benevolent orchestrating power most tangible to me in spaces dedicated to integrating collective and inter-generational trauma. (Resonant World#45: How to Heal Collective Trauma).
So a question I find I’m increasingly asking myself is: Am I acting or speaking in alignment with this healing intelligence, or not?
In our dialogue, the word alignment sparked an inquiry into how we each attempt to connect with something greater than ourselves — whether through Roberta’s work as a channel, Dallas’ ceremonial practice, or my exploration of the mystical principles of trauma healing with Thomas Hübl and team, meditation and Tarot. (Resonant World#10: How Collective Healing Works) (Resonant World#110: Light Infinite) (Resonant World#103: 101 Reasons You Need a Tarot Reading).
I felt a beautifully spontaneous quality emerging in our dialogue, which helped each of us arrive at a new articulation of what it means to build a bridge between consensus reality and subtler realms.
Roberta put it like this:
“There’s a kind of feeling through this alignment, that I’m shored up, that I can expand…It’s almost like building a platform from which to launch…There’s no distortion, just a kind of willingness to say: ‘I’m open in this moment to receive.’ But to be truly open, and truly receptive, first that ground needs mapping out — and I need to have my own self in a position to do that, and that word ‘alignment’ captures all of this.”
For Dallas, the word alignment opened a new vision of the “sacred geometrical matrix” formed in the “Dark Light” of a sweat lodge ceremony:
“In this work, we often say: ‘We’re holding space.’ What we’re doing is creating an alignment, a structure, a framework. We’re in a sacred geometrical matrix…that brings us into alignment, into service for self, service for others, service for all of Creation. In the ‘Dark Light’ of the sweat lodge — it’s easier to lock in. That’s the reality, that’s the truth in that Dark Light.”
And our dialogue affirmed the importance of a regular practice of some kind to help us return to alignment whenever we can.
As Dallas explained:
“With a solid practice, when you get used to being in alignment, then there’s no fear of going inside myself, getting into my basement with the ‘barking dogs’ and all the scary stuff. There’s no fear in the Dark Light — there is a level of trust.”
Roberta added:
“In order for me to show up as a version of myself that I’m in love with throughout my day, I do need to align through my daily practice. That choice to take some time out of my day to do a practice that supports that alignment — the difference it makes moment-to-moment, day-to-day throughout my life, becomes a kind of love story.”
I’m delighted to share our exploration, the third in our Entering the Way of Wisdom series, and I look forward to sharing our fourth dialogue, on The Heart, very soon.
