How The Session Works
Tarot sessions are powerful.
This is sacred time dedicated to helping you contact the parts of your consciousness that already know the answers you're seeking, but which our everyday minds sometimes struggle to access.
I offer a short guided meditation at the start to help us drop into a more holistic, coherent brain state, and connect with the cards. I use a second screen on Zoom to allow you to see the spread more clearly, and choose the cards yourself.
I'd invite you to think of our time together as a kind of Tarot-assisted spiritual coaching session, where we work with the cards to unlock new insights into whatever issues are most alive in you right now.
The Tarot yields the sharpest insights when we approach the deck with one or more specific questions.
Don’t worry if you don't have a precise question in mind: Provided you have a broad theme you want to explore, we will have ample time to formulate a precise question.
I consider the reading to effectively begin as soon as you make the commitment to see me. I invite you to pay particular attention to the kinds of situations, people and signs that come into your life from that moment on: You may notice new questions crystallising before we meet.
Thoth Deck
I work with what is known as the Thoth deck, designed over many years by British occultist Aleister Crowley and Egyptologist Frieda Harris, and published in 1969.
The pair conceived of the Thoth deck as a modern update on the Medieval or Renaissance imagery familiar from popular decks such as the Marseille and Ryder-Waite Coleman Smith, which are still in widespread use today. I think the Thoth deck is a logical choice for navigating the modern era, and the images are stunning.
The Thoth deck contains more than 1,200 symbols, which combine into a language of stunning subtlety. I sometimes read short passages from Tarot: Mirror of the Soul, a book by the therapist Gerd Ziegler, which is one of my main study companions. I find that Gerd's interpretation of the cards can serve as a kind of energetic transmission, which help amplify meanings, and deepen the experience of the reading.
There are no “good” or “bad” cards in the Tarot. However, some cards can be quite direct in pointing to unconscious patterns, or adverse influences. Others can help us connect with inner resources we may have previously overlooked. The important thing is to approach the reading in a receptive state, and remember that sometimes the cards can tell us things we aren't expecting to hear.
I invite you to pay particular attention to the thoughts, feelings and physical sensations you may experience in response to the cards you draw. I can play a role as interpreter, but ultimately this conversation is between you and your Higher Self.
I'm deeply committed to working with the Tarot to help you bring through new insights, visions and innovations that will help you move forward with greater clarity, confidence and flow.
