Thank you Matthew for stepping forward with this bold call to action, enveloped in your warm facilitation and guidance through a gentle reflection we might each undertake if we find ourselves - or our children, peers, friends - in conflict when it comes to our income streams and loyalties to large employer institutions. Speaking out as you have here lands in me as a powerful counter force to hierarchy left unchecked. I'm left appreciating the often forgotten power of the written and spoken word in instituting change (perhaps the new "institution" style we all need during this time).

Thank you Lori, for reflecting back so precisely. I feel we collectively have a lot more capacity to create change than maybe we assume, and I agree that speaking and writing are key ingredients to catalyse the process.

Really one of my favourite Clash-songs. And you at your best, Matthew, so calm and so bright, helps me a lot guiding me through my own process within a big organisation (which is about mental health but it does not matter so much, it's the same thing). It is also always a pleasure for me to listen to your brilliant English - I take it as a beautiful lesson. Love you, man!

So happy to hear you found some resonance in the video! Your early encouragement in our men's group for me to continue writing and speaking on these matters has helped build my confidence to share in this way. Sending you love right back!

Honestly, i think this could be one of the richest themes within and beyond the hubl community, in terms of one's discernment, but also cultivating agency on both sides of the organizational lines. And then working this as practice, how deeply ingrained are our messages of identity, self respect, and purpose wound up in career and 'being right.' I caught myself today letting a slightly snarky opinion fly just b/c i was bored with a certain well known professional's work, despite them having done decades of real service in the culture. My own 'opinions' are also vanities in this walk...

So glad to hear your response; and I agree this is a hugely rich theme. I love your final line: "My own 'opinions' are also vanities in this walk..." I read that as a reminder of the importance of humility (big word!) -- or at least attempting to remember humility as a possibility -- on this path. Something I struggle with!

Quite brilliant Matthew. Not just the courage to go deeper and then stepping out. But to process the experience as practice, ready to share with others at at time when it is so needed. Too many of us have waking up moments but no sense of how to keep that insight alive: instead we get herded into polarities that have more to do with the old system than the new one you are pointing at. I hope you develop this and offer it more widely.

Thank you Indra! Yes, very keen to develop this work in some form; trusting where intuition leads!

Hi Matthew,

Very interesting video. I was fascinated to hear about your journey. My oversimplified advice to most of my friends, and even more to young people today is to think and act like an entrepreneur and a freelancer. Build your own project, be it as a company or as the work and life you want. This forces you to make the choices you talk about on a daily basis but with the comfort that these are your decisions and you must take responsibility for them. It is an empowering choice but also one that I believe makes a lot of sense in todays environment.

Cheers

Philip Weiss
