Resonant World #76
Something wants to be born.
I can sense it.
Even if I can’t yet see its shape.
But there’s a new media platform emerging from our growing understanding of individual, inter-generational and collective trauma — a newsroom very different to those I grew up in.
I’ve been thinking more deeply about what such a platform might look like since I quit my job as a correspondent at Reuters two years ago to join DeSmog, and started the two-year Timeless Wisdom Training with Thomas Hübl and team. (Resonant World#32: Processing My Reuters Climate Karma). That immersive and challenging course has refined my understanding of how layers of accumulated, multi-generational, unprocessed trauma live in our social fabric, shaping our perceptions, and the course of events, in ways few journalists begin to consider.
Unexpected Invitation
Starting to acknowledge the role of collective and inter-generational trauma in how we cover — and engage with — the news would represent an evolutionary threshold comparable to the invention of the Greek Amphitheatre, or the printing press.
I’ve written a couple of times on what this new kind of media might look like: both in terms of how such a newsroom might be structured, and what kind of content it might produce. (Resonant World #8: Building the Quantum Newsroom).(Resonant World #73: Building a Media System to Heal Collective Trauma. Who’s in?)
I imagine Resonant World as a forerunner of this new system, and will increasingly be using that mission statement as a guide.
That said, I wasn’t planning on subjecting these still tender ideas to a live, in-person audience quite so soon.
However, I’m very grateful to have been offered an entirely unexpected opportunity to do some further exploration in public by Kairos in London, where we’ll be hosting an event on the evening of Thursday, April 11 entitled: A New Media System To Heal Our Collective Trauma.
Details and tickets here.
I’m excited to bring some of the understanding I’ve been developing of collective trauma to Kairos, where I know I can count on an engaged audience committed to re-imaging business as usual, in spheres from activism to the arts.
I will cue up the discussion, but this will be a participatory session designed to evoke the crackle and spark of collective intelligence — and I can’t wait to see what will come through our group, both in terms of new ideas, and new connections.
If you’re in London next month, I hope to see you there!

Resonant World is written alongside my work editing investigations at nonprofit climate news service DeSmog. It’s a huge boost when people become paid subscribers, and support of any amount affirms that my mission to support the global community of practitioners engaged in integrating individual, inter-generational and collective trauma has value. Thank you!
Awesome Matthew, even if the resonant world is inviting you ahead of your readiness, you can go with an open heart and inquiring mind and 'not-knowing-ness'!. I look forward to hearing all about it.
Matthew, that is wonderful! Congratulations. And who could argue with the timing of an invitation from an organization called Kairos....😂👍
