Yes, climate change IS a mental health crisis. And it is never discussed in that way (or almost, right? ; ) The body politics' parasympathetic nervous system's fight, fright, and flight responses. Which is, when you think about it Matthew, EXACTLY where trauma-informed journalism can effect an intervention. That's it, right there. The Achille's heel of the ecofascist movement's power structure. Don't you think?

Whew. Thank you both so much for such spot-on, effective communication about most of the aspects of this psycho-social situation we’re in. Jared, I’ve been following you already, but very glad for Matthew’s substack to have shown up today. You’re in my stack too now. I’m forwarding this to my local Dems in NWFlorida, where we have right-wing dysfunction all around us.

Jared:

Every 10th of a degree of warming MATTERS!

That is how to give hope, because it is TRUE

EVERY 10th of a degree matters

So do what you can. 140,000,000 people will be saved for every 10th of a degree we can prevent. It WILL help. There is hope.

It is a great conversation.

Most of the time we all feel different emotions due to personal/ local / political issues. Underneath all of it is the environment where we live in which has been systematically abused and destroyed.

Now it is the environment’s turn to make us feel the brunt of the loss.

Jared thank you for putting it in simple terms/ connecting the dots with money , power, selfishness all the way to destruction of our planet and our souls.

Now Elon wants to go to Mars - as it is we can see it is a dead planet.

All these Elon worshippers- how many of them can go there with him? Not if really he can go there !

Instead of saving the earth that we have - these oligarchs want to go to Mars on the expense of regular people’s livelihood.

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. We should save our planet that we have rather than looking at the Mars.

What a fantastic 50 minutes of question and extraordinary clarity of answer this interview with Jared Yates Sexton. I am buying his book - and I will share this video around the world. I was just at a memorial ceremony for a younger friend who passed away in September last year. It was held in a remote hamlet called Hockey's Creek - the cemetery itself in an enclosed wooded grove - 20 people by invitation from his widow- as a lad so badly sexually abused within the NSW juvenile "in-justice" system that I can't write it - but a strength within made him an advocate and a seeker after justice for the many of his fellow prisoners (to age 18) who never made it far into adult years - being a major witness himself at the Royal Commission into Childhood Institutional Abuse (Sexual and Physical) held here in Australia in the latter 2010s. I delivered the eulogy and later back at a local hotel in the locale had conversations with a number of others attending including a young (50s) fellow from Queensland who had been through terrible times himself - speaking unselfconsciously (because he was with "friends" about some of the traumatic effects on his own life - his parenting - being leapt upon by his own little lads in play but reacting in startled response ways that clearly drew on his efforts at deeply-controlling but terrible experiences. As you spoke with Jared I could see even more clearly my own experiences - as you put it more-or-less - from another angle. Thank-you so much Matthew - for all that you do...

Further: I have finished Jared's book - brilliant - a senior high/college level world history - or for anyone who did not study history at those two levels.

What happens when oligarchs go after mutual aid groups/worker groups/teachers/scientists who are trying to work together to fight weaponized abuse? I’m hoping those of us who stand together are a large enough group to sway the majority.
