Welcome To Our New UK Retreat
Join Dr Genevieve von Lob and Jules De Vitto at the amazing Quadrangle in Kent, UK for an empowering three days in June.
Over the past couple of years, in parallel to my studies of collective trauma, I’ve been learning a lot about the fast-developing field of sensitivity research from my wife Dr Genevieve von Lob, a clinical psychologist.
It’s thought that about 20-30 percent of the population process sensory input, thoughts and emotions deeply enough to be considered a “Highly Sensitive Person” — or HSP — a term coined by the pioneering American psychologist Dr Elaine Aron in the 1990s, which is now gaining more mainstream acceptance.
Genevieve specialises in coaching HSPs — who are often blessed with great gifts of empathy, creativity, intuition, and an ability to sense into complex systems, but who can also be prone to burnout and overwhelm if they don’t manage their energy wisely.
The good news is that next month Genevieve and her great friend, the coach Jules De Vitto, will be co-hosting their first in-person HSP retreat at the beautiful Quadrangle in Kent, UK. (The retreat starts on the afternoon of Thursday, June 15 and closes after breakfast on Sunday, June 18).
I don’t want to give too much away, but Genevieve and Jules will be creating an incredibly nourishing, welcoming and supportive space. There will be absolutely no pressure to do anything, but plenty of opportunities to connect with nature, and take part in empowering workshops, yoga, breathwork, sound healing, and a silent conscious dance disco, to name a few of the options.
There’s still a few places left if anyone is looking for an amazing few days to learn how to fully own the gifts that high sensitivity brings, and manage the vulnerabilities. (Though I’m obviously biased, I know this will be a very special event, and I love how there’s already a great mix of people from different age groups and backgrounds signed up).
HSPs are often drawn to work in therapeutic settings, and I suspect they are strongly represented among those committed to healing collective trauma.
I therefore consider this retreat a node in the global trauma-healing mycelium, and I’m only sad that I won’t be able to take advantage of it along with everyone else!
And if you can’t make the retreat, but feel a call to explore your own sensitivity more deeply, then do check out The HSP Revolution, an online community Genevieve and I run to support HSPs to show up with greater confidence, ease and flow. Because one thing’s for certain — the world needs more HSPs to step up and lead right now.
Climate Witnesssing On Monday, May 22
A reminder that on Monday, May 22 I will be co-hosting a Global Social Witnessing event with the Pocket Project on the struggles to stop more fossil fuel megaprojects blighting U.S. Gulf Coast communities — a crucial line in the global climate fight.
Anne Rolfes, executive director of the Louisana Bucket Brigade, a nonprofit which has spent two decades battling to protect the state from the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, will be sharing her experiences. And I’ll be speaking about my impressions from covering these fights for DeSmog and the Guardian. You can can find out the times in your area and register for free here.
I write Resonant World in my spare time from my editing role at DeSmog, a nonprofit news service focused on investigating the vested interests blocking action on climate change. Support from readers is a huge boost — and that includes reading, sharing, or commenting in response to my posts. Any variety of coffee gratefully accepted. Thank you!
