The Resonant Man, Spirituality, and the Political Economy of Fatherhood
A dialogue with Cadell Last, founder of Philosophy Portal.
Resonant World #87
Sex, masculinity and God are not trivial topics, and I’m inclined to admire anyone brave enough to tackle them in book form.
It was therefore a great delight to dialogue with Cadell Last, Ph.D, co-author of a book by that title, and founder of the Philosophy Portal, an education platform teaching the foundational philosophical discourses of the modern world.
You can watch our podcast on YouTube here or listen on Spotify here.
Jacob Kishere set up our conversation with Cadell to explore some themes inspired by a new men’s group Jacob and are launching next month, The Resonant Man. (If you’re interested in joining us, please email <discoverdialogos@gmail.com>).
In our dialogue, we delved into:
Combining men’s work with Dialogos
Cadell’s experience of anti-masculinity in the Academy
Splits between the religious and psychotherapeutic in men’s work
The spirituality of the Resonant Man and connecting with Soul
Matthew on being unprepared for fatherhood
Cadell on how the political economy of late capitalism doesn’t support men to become fathers and family-makers
How can we ensoul our institutions and corporations
How does men’s work potentially build into a capacity to respond to our socio-political precarity
The family business as a response to economic conditions
The Resonant Man, Christ and the meta-crisis
This conversation helped me see some of the larger issues affecting men more clearly, and it was great to connect for the first time with Cadell, who you can follow here:
Event Tonight: Love and Grief in the Shadow of Psychedelic Narcissism
There’s still time to grab a ticket for our latest event tonight in the “Love and Grief” series, hosted by Dr Ros Watts’ ACER Integration community.
We have some great speakers, and opportunities to share in small groups, on the theme of narcissism and psychedelics.
I’ll be making a brief apperance to represent my work to support people stuck (for now) in toxic workplaces via Resonant World’s sister publication Toxic Workplace Survival Guy.
More details on the rationale behind the event here.
Note from the Editor: A labour of love, Resonant World is written in the gaps between work I get paid to do, notably editing investigations at nonprofit climate news service DeSmog. It’s a huge boost when people become paid subscribers, and support of any amount affirms that my mission to support the global community of practitioners engaged in supporting people to integrate individual, inter-generational and collective trauma has value. Thank you!
